2024 Essentials: a culture of major projects to meet environmental and social challenges

Our Essentials

The 15,000 employees of the Major Projects Division carry out exceptional works and highly technical projects throughout the world in four main areas of activity: transport infrastructure, buildings and functional works, hydraulics and environment, and energy. These major infrastructure meet the challenges of tomorrow’s world in terms of improving the quality of life, sustainable mobility, preserving the environment, contributing to climate resilience and the efficient production of sustainable energy.

Heirs to the great builders of the past and completely committed to today’s world, the men and women of the Major Projects Division use their passion and expertise to support their clients and communities.

To unite them, bring them together and guide them in the performance of their duties, we have built our common ground around: 6 areas of excellence and 5 commitments.

Our commitments:

  • Practices that respect our ethical principles

Our areas of excellence:

  • To fulfil our mission
  • Risk management culture

They all contribute to the pursuit of our shared ambition for all-round performance, with a focus on accelerating the environmental transition, while upholding our humanist culture.

The commitment of our teams, their individual and collective expertise, their high standards and their sense of teamwork once again left their mark on 2023, which was a good year for the Major Projects division.

Our technical excellence serving a shared ambition: accelerating the environmental transition

Many of the structures we build contribute to the decarbonisation of our living environment.

Shared mobility, green energy production, preservation of water resources, climate resilience: we are building tomorrow’s world, a world that is more responsible, low-carbon and sustainable.

This ambition starts on our construction sites. The design and construction of these major infrastructure projects must meet the highest standards of environmental performance, based on the three pillars defined by VINCI:

  • Reducing our CO2 emissions,
  • The circular economy,
  • Preserving natural environments

The hallmark of the Major Projects Division, our technical excellence is not only the cornerstone of operational control at our worksites for the benefit of our clients and future users, but also the very foundation of our environmental ambition.

Our culture of innovation, shared by the 500 engineers in our technical departments and all our project teams, helps support our all-round performance in two key axes: the digital transformation of our businesses and the reduction of our carbon footprint.

Our pioneering, ultra-low-carbon concrete Exegy solutions by VINCI Construction (45% of our concrete is low-carbon) and artificial intelligence contribute to the optimisation of our projects.

Our developments in hydrothermal gasification and underground hydrogen storage, two promising markets for the future, reflect our shared goal of accelerating the environmental transition.

A humanist culture to contribute to social progress and carry out projects with a strong positive impact, all over the world

To build a sustainable world and lasting structures useful to all, we are collectively committed to a process of continuous progress based on strong principles:

  • Safety for all
  • Respect for human rights and business ethics
  • Preservation of the environment

  • The positive impact of our activities.

Safety is a core value of the Major Projects Division and one that governs our projects. Protecting the physical and mental well-being of all the men and women who work on our sites is an absolute priority.

Safety Days, VINCI Construction’s cross-functional event, was held in 2023 from 19 to 26 May. It brought together our teams on all our sites, throughout the world to raise awareness among our employees, partners and subcontractors.

Our people are our greatest assets. We are committed to attractive and sustainable career paths, which encourage our employees to express their talents within our organisationThe development of their skills (more than 40,000 hours of training in 2023) and giving them personal fulfilment establishes our ability to meet the challenges of exceptional worksites.

Our teams are international (51 nationalities), supportive and committed. With a local management system that promotes autonomy and initiative, we believe in collective success and equal opportunities. We encourage gender diversity in the workplace. In 2023, 300 male and female employees attended ” Committing to gender diversity ” awareness-raising days.

Generally speaking, all over the world, we are committed to the economic, social and environmental development of territories, for the benefit of local communities.

Setting an example is a prerequisite for our all-round and sustainable performance. In line with the commitments of the VINCI Manifesto, we ensure that our activities are marked by probity, transparency, respect for business ethics and competition rules, and respect for human dignity and the fundamental, rights of people and local communities, in all circumstances.  And we ensure that our activities have a positive impact on society,  by taking multiple initiatives in local communities!

In Colombia, our “Semillero Rosa” programme enabled 117 women to be given training in construction jobs in 2023. They are now employed by our consortium on the Bogota-Girardot motorway widening project.

As a sustainable partner to the regions, we are committed to contributing to their socio-economic development. We participate in VINCI’s Chantiers et Territoires Solidaires endowment fund, which supports community projects promoting social cohesion and employment. In 2023, 26 associations were awarded €336,000 in funding.

These initiatives reflect our collective commitment to a fairer, more equitable and more inclusive society, an ambition shared throughout the VINCI Group.   We also support the initiatives and commitment of our employees who get involved in community projects, in particular through the VINCI Foundation “VINCI pour la Cité”.
