Undergound energy storage

UNDERGROUND EXPERTISE FOR MASSIVE ENERGY STORAGE

A world leader in underground storage

With our subsidiary Geostock, our expertise extends to the strategic field of underground energy storage. A world leader in the sector, Geostock has been offering unique expertise in the implementation of safe, economical and environmentally friendly infrastructure for 60 years.

With our 500 engineers and technicians, we contribute to the control of energy flows throughout the world. Our know-how has been proven in over 50 countries.

Our expertise in all techniques (salt caverns, mined caverns and porous reservoirs) enables us to offer our clients extensive services throughout the life cycle of the storage facilities, in the areas of consulting, engineering, construction and operation.

Jurong Rock Caverns – 150 metres under the sea, the 5 caverns of the storage facility allow the storage of approximately 1.3 million m3 of liquid petroleum products. Geostock acted as the owner’s engineer and now operates this unique storage facility (Singapore) as part of a consortium.

We intervene in the early stages of underground energy storage projects by providing high value-added insight into their technical, economic and environmental feasibility and by proposing the most appropriate sizing and siting strategies (number of units, capacities, flow rates, availability rates, etc.).
Geostock is an engineering company of excellence, offering cutting-edge expertise in underground activities (geophysics, geology, hydrogeology, geotechnics, underground civil engineering, drilling, reservoir engineering, leaching) and in surface and underground industrial equipment, and supports its clients in the development of their projects.

We also accompany the construction of the infrastructure, both as an assistant to the contracting authority and as a contractor, within a construction consortium. Geostock has acquired a unique know-how in this field, rich in engineering-operating synergy that allows it to initiate and maintain a continuous improvement process, thanks to worldwide feedback on each of these components.

We also train future operating teams and are able to operate underground storage facilities according to the specific needs of our clients.

Know-how in the service of low-carbon energy

In addition to liquid, liquefied or gaseous hydrocarbons or CO2, we are fully invested in the development of decarbonised energy storage solutions, such as compressed air or hydrogen. Our solutions support the global ambition of the sector’s players to reduce carbon emissions throughout the energy chain.
