Opening of the new terminal at Dushanbe Airport

VINCI Construction Grands Projets teams designed and built this two-level, 12,000-m² facility that can receive 1.2 million passengers a year. France contributed €20 million to this project out of total funding of €39 million.

A digital project model was used in the design phase to facilitate structural, technical, and methodological planning. The project was completed 4 months ahead of schedule in time for the 90th anniversary celebrations of Tajik Air. The first passengers are expected in November 2014.

This project showcased VINCI group synergies. VINCI Airports, an international player in the airport development sector that operates 23 airports around the world, provided project management support to the client. VINCI Construction Grands Projets teams designed and built this turn-key facility, including airport systems (baggage sorting, safety gates and scanners, passenger walkways, and more).

Currently, VINCI Construction Grands Projets and VINCI Airports are also working closely together in Cambodia on Phnom Penh and Siem Reap airport terminal expansion projects.

Modernization of the country’s water-management network at Yarmouk (Jordan)

The contract, valued at €22.5 million with Franco-Jordanian funding, includes network equipment supply (machinery, vehicles, and pumping equipment), installation of pumping equipment, and ready access to technical experts.

Franco-Jordanian bilateral cooperation, established within the framework of this contract, was saluted during the signing ceremony held at the Élysée Palace (the official residence of the President of France).

VINCI to build the Shieldhall tunnel in Glasgow (United Kingdom)

The structure, the largest wastewater storage tunnel in Scotland, is designed to improve water quality and help cope with the risk of flooding in the city and pollution of the River Clyde.

The contract, with a value of €105 million, covers the construction of two shafts with a diameter of 15 metres each and a depth of 20 metres, a 300 metre long cut-and-cover trench and a 5 km tunnel with an internal diameter of 4.70 metres. The technique used will be that of a mud pressure type tunnel boring machine, one of the company’s areas of expertise.

Work will get under way in October 2014 and completion is anticipated in early 2018.

VINCI Construction Grands Projets, one of the world leaders in the sector, has a large number of project references in the field of underground works: the Hallandsås railway tunnels in Sweden, the El Teniente mine tunnels in Chile and work on the Hong Kong metro and the Cairo metro, a new section of which has recently been handed over several months ahead of schedule. In the United Kingdom, VINCI Construction Grands Projets is currently building, in London, the Lee Tunnel for Thames Water and carrying out two Crossrail contracts (C510 and C512) at Liverpool Street and Whitechapel.

New water work contracts in Cambodia

In accordance with this US$27.3-million design-build contract funded by Agence française de développement, VINCI Construction Grands Projets teams will deliver an extension of the current station in 30 months. The new structure will produce 260,000 cubic metres of water a day (up from 130,000 cubic metres currently).

In addition, Cambodia Airports, a subsidiary of VINCI Airports, has mandated VINCI Construction Grands Projets to build two new wastewater treatment plants for the Phnom Penh and Siem Reap international airports. These two activated sludge treatment plants with a capacity of 140 cubic metres an hour also include a unit that processes sludge by centrifugation and an odour-removal unit. The contract calls for the construction of both stations in 17 months for a total of US$7.5 million.

These new contracts in the water-management sector provide further evidence of VINCI Construction Grands Projets’ continuing international development, including the development of synergies with other VINCI Group companies and diversification of construction activities in a country where the Group is currently expanding airport terminals at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap for Cambodia Airports.

Qatar takes delivery of pumping station PS70

It was designed and built by a consortium led by VINCI Construction Grands Projets that includes Entrepose Projets and QDVC, a subsidiary of Qatari Diar (51 %) and VINCI Construction Grands Projets (49 %).

The contract, valued at €360 million, was awarded in 2009. Construction was completed in June 2012, which the consortium followed with a two-year maintenance period pending the commissioning of the wastewater treatment plant connected to pumping station PS70.
The consortium delivered the pumping station as a turn-key solution that includes control systems and a 45-kilometre pipeline connecting the pumping station to the wastewater treatment plant.

This project provided several VINCI Group companies an opportunity to work together and leverage their synergies. Accordingly, the project’s subcontractors included: Cegelec Portugal (SCADA design and implementation) and Cegelec Qatar (electrical works), which are both subsidiaries of VINCI Energies; VINCI Construction Terrassement, a subsidiary of VINCI Construction; and WMI (technical support), a subsidiary of VINCI Construction Grands Projets.

VINCI Construction Grands Projets is active in Qatar through its 49 % participation in the QDVC joint venture, which is currently building the light rail system in Lusail, the Sheraton park and underground car park, the south red line of the subway system in Doha, and the New Orbital Highway, a ring road in the Qatari capital.

Entry into service of the Coentunnels in the Netherlands

As a result of the construction of the new Coentunnel, opened in May 2013, the existing 40-year-old tunnel was closed for renovation. The older structure has now been reopened to traffic, bringing this major project to an end. The two 750-metre tunnels, which are located under the port of Amsterdam, will relieve congestion on Amsterdam’s busy western ring road and ease the flow of traffic going north. The 200,000 customers expected on a daily basis will now have 8 lanes available to them, rather than 5 as was formerly the case.

Total project investment was €517 million. Coentunnel Company, a jointly owned subsidiary of VINCI Concessions, CFE and its subsidiary Dredging International, and their Dutch and Belgian partners will operate the infrastructure as a whole for 24 years in compliance with the contract.

This 5-year project was carried out by a consortium consisting of VINCI Construction Grands Projets and CFE, DIMI, TBI, Dura Vermeer, and Besix. The consortium delivered a turn-key solution that includes an automated traffic-management system.

QDVC, a subsidiary of VINCI, signs contract for the final works phase of the Lusail LRT in Qatar

The new contract was signed in Paris on 23 June 2014 at a ceremony attended by François Hollande, President of the French Republic, and His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, who is on an official visit to France.

This design-build contract with a value of about €2 billion will be built by QDVC in a consortium with Alstom. It comprises construction of 25 stations and a depot, architectural and electro-mechanical works packages, integrated project management, delivery by Alstom, for €750 million, of 35 trains equipped with catenary-free technology, track-laying, energy supply and telecommunications as well as control systems. The light rail system is scheduled to begin operating in 2018 (yellow line) and 2020 (green, red and purple lines).

The city of Lusail, a new urban development with a population of 200,000 north of Doha, the capital of Qatar, will welcome up to 450,000 users per day. Sustainable development was a primary criterion in planning the new city. From the start, the design included the creation of a public transport system to limit greenhouse gas emissions. QDVC completed the civil engineering works on the first phases of the infrastructure (7 km of tunnels, 7 underground and 4 above-ground stations, as well as an access viaduct to the depot) and is currently building the Pearl station, which will connect the Lusail light rail with the Doha metro system, also under construction. In seven years, VINCI Construction Grands Projets has become, through QDVC, a major construction player in Qatar.

After handing over the country’s largest wastewater pumping station, the company is currently working on several projects: a new motorway on the outskirts of Doha (the New Orbital Highway), the Doha metro (southern works package of the red line) and the underground car park and landscaped gardens at the Sheraton hotel in the West Bay business district.

VINCI and Bouygues Construction hand over the new Cairo metro line

The Phase 2 civil engineering project, led by VINCI Construction Grands Projets alongside Bouygues Travaux Publics, a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, and their Egyptian partners Orascom Construction and Arab Contractors, got under way in May 2009. More than 3,000 Egyptian workers were employed on the project, which was handed over five months ahead of schedule.

This achievement reflects the more than 30 years of experience that VINCI Construction Grands Projets and Bouygues Travaux Publics have acquired since the signature of the contract for Line 1 of the Cairo metro in 1981.

Developed in phases, Line 3 of the metro will ultimately cross the Egyptian capital east to west, connecting the airport with the districts west of the Nile over a distance of nearly 40 km. It is part of the large-scale plan designed to relieve traffic and limit pollution in Cairo, North Africa’s largest metropolitan area.

VINCI wins the design-build contract for a new motorway near Doha, Qatar

The €850 million contract covers the design and construction of 47 km of motorways, 6 viaducts, 17 bridges and underpasses and a 320-metre cut-and-cover tunnel. This motorway section will have a five-lane dual carriageway for light vehicles and two truck lanes in each direction. Work is to commence in May 2014 and take 36 months to complete.

The new highway, which is nearly 200 km long, will connect the new port of the Qatari capital with Ras Laffan, the gas-producing industrial city in the north of the country. The highway will bypass Doha and relieve current traffic congestion while preparing to accommodate projected road traffic increases.

This new success achieved by VINCI Construction Grands Projets in Qatar reflects the local roots of its subsidiary QDVC, which has positioned itself in seven years as a major player in the Qatari construction market. The company is currently working on the southern works package of the Doha metro’s red line, the light rail project in the new city of Lusail and the Sheraton underground car park and landscaped gardens in the heart of the West Bay business district. In 2012, QDVC handed over the country’s largest pumping station.
